CISA recently released the final chapter for the Cyber Essentials Toolkit – Chapter 6: Your Crisis Response – to provide additional recommendations in building cyber readiness.  For decision-makers and leadership, Chapter 6 focuses on responding to and recovering from a cyberattack through the following actions:

Lead development of an incident response and disaster recovery plan

Leverage mission impact assessments to prioritize resources and identify which systems must be recovered first

Learn who to call for help (e.g., internal and external partners, vendors)

Lead development of internal reporting structure

Leverage containment measure to limit the impact of cyber incidents when they occur

In addition to resource links, this chapter also includes an exercise that information technology and cybersecurity managers can use to engage their leaders in thought-provoking discussions about cybersecurity.  The exercise is designed to raise decision-makers and leadership's awareness of the risks and the need to integrate cybersecurity decision-making with day-to-day risk management processes and procedures.
