LMR LTE Integration and Interoperability Working Group
Public Safety LMR systems will continue to operate for many years as work advances to finalize worldwide standards to support mission critical voice and as FirstNet builds the nationwide public safety broadband network. It is important to fully explore the coexistence of, and simultaneous use of, LMR and LTE/5G technologies to determine necessary operational requirements to ensure continued interoperability.
Interoperability, both on-network and off-network, is required to accomplish public safety's mission. Interoperability with non-public safety LTE/5G networks used by municipalities and private entities (such as networks that take advantage of spectrum such as CBRS, EBS, and unlicensed frequencies) as well as the integration of other new emerging technologies including satellite that focuses on providing service to rural areas, must also be considered.
